“Reccurring themes in my work include motifs of life and death, still lifes, and landscapes off the beaten path. This water color titled Slab City is the latter. I visited the autonomous zone of Slab City back in 2015. It’s an off grid alternative community existing in the Southern California desert without water. There I met unconventional folks like a 65 year old woman who walked there from the east coast. It’s a weird mix of people and I wish there were more places like it for people to go when they need a place to exist. I keep painting to tell stories. I had a period of time when I wasn’t making art and I’m glad that’s over.”
