“Earth pigments on linen, hand and machine stitched.

“In April I was diagnosed with tuberculosis. During quarantine I researched digital imagery of bacillus tuberculosis. I was struck by the vibrancy of these rod-shaped bacteria, and how the staining resulted in a background that reminded me of my own work with surface design. This piece is inspired by bacillus tuberculosis, which I’ve stitched in shades of blue. I mixed fabrics and surface design materials (earth minerals and procion dye) to highlight the organic intelligence of fabric and earth pigments in this piece.
